Eco Warriors

Eco Warriors

The Eco Warriors are a group of children who are passionate about the environment and doing their bit to look after our planet. Let’s meet them!

What do the Eco Warriors do?

The team meet every Wednesday lunchtime with Miss Doorduyn to discuss improvements that could be made to make the school even more eco-friendly. They have undertaken a range of activities over the course of the year, including a school-wide survey, raising awareness, litter picking, planting and fundraising opportunities.

Litter Picking

The children from Eco-council regularly litter pick the school grounds and Middlestown. Check out these pictures below!

The Eco Warriors have gone on multiple litter picks over the last 12 months, both internally and externally. They also got together with Year 5 to undertake a litter survey and create custom-made, targeted posters for the local area.

Eco Schools Award

In October, the Eco Warriors of Middlestown Primary Academy hosted an assembly to showcase the fantastic work they have been doing over the last academic year.

They confidently and enthusiastically shared some of their successes, such as fundraising events, litter picks and competitions, all in the name of looking after the local environment. They invited Wakefield Councillor, Samantha Harvey, to attend, along with two school governors, Sunil Nannar and Kath Turner.

It was during this assembly that they showcased all of their hard work and the result of it… the Eco Schools Award!

At the start of the year, the Eco Warriors expressed fundraising as an area that they would like to develop, as they felt it was important to raise money to support charities fighting for change. In Summer 2023 they supported WWF through a ‘Wear it Wild’ fancy dress day where the children of Middlestown were encouraged to dress wild for the day!

In addition, the Eco Warriors had a stall at the Summer Fayre selling plants they’d grown as well as activities such as making a bird feeder out of recycled materials.

The Accord Multi Academy Trust is an educational charity established in September 2016 that is currently made up of four academies who were the founding members of the Trust. In September 2016 Horbury Academy and Ossett Academy & Sixth Form College came together, moving away from their stand-alone Trust status and were joined in December 2016 by Horbury Primary Academy and Middlestown Primary Academy.

The overarching vision for the Trust is to work in one ‘Accord – celebrating the differences of each academy through strong collaboration in order to inspire all members of our learning community to be the best that they can be.
