Welcome to Key Stage 1
Our children in Key Stage 1 learn in an exciting, creative and encouraging environment. While each child is treated as an individual, we emphasise the importance of being a team player and working collaboratively to build important social skills.
In Key Stage 1, the foundations of learning are established through a rich and varied creative curriculum. The children are taught the core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, Science and ICT. These are balanced with Physical Education, Religious Education, Design and Technology, Art, Music, History and Geography. The children also participate in SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning), which encourages children to take responsibility for their actions. This enables them to choose good behaviour, increases self-esteem and help them to deal with difficult situations.
Year 1 is the exciting first step into Key Stage 1, where children are encouraged in a more independent school routine. They begin to take on more responsibilities and are encouraged to participate fully in their own learning.
Year 2 is both an exciting and challenging year. In Year 2 we consolidate all the learning from previous years and ensure they are ready for the demands of Key Stage 2. We prepare the children so that they can confidently approach their end of Key Stage assessments and tests (SATS).
In Key Stage 1, we ensure that there is a balance between delivering the curriculum and offering children a wider range of experiences including school trips, sports festivals, cooking and ICT.
