English – The Very Hungry Caterpillar 

  • Watch Mrs Sholi reading the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ on this See Saw link. Talk about how the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly and different foods he eats. Do the children like/dislike the foods? Which is their favourite food?
  • On this Link there is a short animated film of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.
  • Life cycle of a butterfly task (click here) – can you order the life cycle of a butterfly, you can print out the sheet and cut and stick the pictures or draw arrows onto the template. Then write 3 sentences in your home workbook to describe the life cycle of a butterfly.

Maths

  • This week our focus is halving even numbers.

Look at the words to describe each animal( e.g hairy hog) Think about the different sounds that animals make. Think of other words that describe how they talk (e.g. shouted, screamed, hissed, chattered).

  • Here is the story ‘What the ladybird Heard’ that looks at the illustrations/pictures in more detail, so you can talk about the story with an adult to help you with your writing. Link

Writing Activities

  • Ladybird-Story-Sequence-  Write one or two short sentences for the pictures-When we write in class, we encourage the children to say the words out loud and use their knowledge of phonemes and graphemes to write the sounds they can hear, for example: spighdr for spider, peepol for people. We remind children to leave finger spaces and try to form letters correctly.
    The sheet can be printed off, or sentence can be written in your home book.
  • Blank-wanted-poster Make a ‘Wanted Poster’ to , Draw Lefty Len and Hefty Hugh and write some words to describe them. e.g tall, big, hairy, stripy, green hat, scary, silly.

Mrs Sholi has uploaded a tricky words game to try on See Saw (click the link) Try and point to the tricky words whilst Mrs Sholi sings the song! Perhaps you could make a tricky words game for Mrs Sholi to try and your Mum/Dad could video you doing it?

Remember to read a bedtime story every night with a grown up and discuss the characters and setting. Can you answer these questions: What might happen next? Why did they do that? Let’s think of a different ending. Etc.

Maths Activities 

Time Sequencing

The purpose of this activity (click this link) is that children use everyday language related to time. You can either print off the sheets, cut out the cards and the children can glue them onto the correct sheet or you can just show the children the cards on the computer and ask the children if the events would happen in the; morning, afternoon, evening or at night. This activity is great for sequencing according to time and encouraging the use of time related vocabulary eg when, next, later, before, after etc. We would love to see videos or photographs of any learning you do related to this activity.
